Website Hosting

Website hosting is a process by which companies provide people and businesses the opportunity to have their own websites on the World Wide Web. They work by providing space on their own servers in a data center for use by the websites that they are hosting.

There are numerous types of website hosting services.

Free Web Hosting

A free web hosting service works by putting advertising on their pages. Although there is no cost for the service, users will find their sites of limited functionality. There will be very little bandwidth and storage space compared to a paid web hosting service.

The user will probably need to post advertising for the host, and certain file types may not be allowed. Many free web hosting services also have a paid service and use the free service as a way to encourage people to buy their service. The paid service will have an enhanced package, which expands the features of the web host.

Shared Web Hosting

Another option is shared web hosting, in which a number of people share one web server and each person has his or her own website on the server. While this is an economical option, the security of each individual website may be compromised by the fact that they are used on a shared server.

Paid Web Hosting

Many people opt to pay a service to host their web domain. These paid services can cost as little as a few dollars a month. Depending on the nature of the company and the price the individual pays for web hosting, the domain comes with a certain amount of storage space and bandwidth for each month. The storage space, usually measured in gigabytes, determines how much information in files you can keep on the site.

Individuals looking for a web host should see how much space on their web files take up on their computers before entering into an agreement. The bandwidth is the amount of data transfer that visitors on the site can achieve each month. This number is also measured in gigabytes, and must meet or exceed the amount of data each visitor accesses, multiplied the amount of times visitors access the site each month. If the amount of storage space or bandwidth is inadequate, the owner of the domain will usually be able to acquire more for an added fee.

What You Need to Know in Choosing a Web Hosting Plan

Looking for a web hosting plan can be complicating and frustrating. There are many web hosts available and many of them offer the same basic features. When it comes down to deciding on hosting, you need to figure out which fits your needs the best.

The Different Web Hosting Options

You will first need to decide on what type of web hosting account you need for your online business. Here are the different types with an explanation of who can benefit from each one.

Free web hosting

If you use free web hosting, you will have banners on top of all of your web pages. You will also have limited capabilities in customizing your website. This type of host is not the preferred type for online business websites due to the advertisements placed on the sites.

  • Shared hosting

This is the most common and frequently used web hosting solution supporting many websites. At a low price shared web hosting offer perhaps a more limited options than dedicated hosting but is more than enough bandwidth and storage space for smaller business websites. There's a reason why this is the most popular web hosting plan out there.

  • Dedicated hosting

This gives you much more room to grow your business. You can have as many sites on the host as you would like and will not need to worry about the server being able to handle the large volume of visitors to your site.

  • Collocated hosting

You can purchase this server rather than renting a space. You will connect to the Internet through the server. This is for running high volume and multiple large websites.

The Basic Features of Web Hosts

  • Server type

Most web hosts have Windows 2000, Unix and Linux servers. If you plan to run a simple website, you will not need to worry about the server the web host provides because most simple websites run off one of these three servers.

  • Disk space

The size of your website will determine the amount of disk space you will need.

  • Bandwidth

Bandwidth relates to how many visitors you will have on your site each day. Bandwidth is the power it takes for the information you provide on your site to travel to browsers. Many small online businesses will not need a large amount of bandwidth. Unless you are planning on an ecommerce or other comparable site, many web hosts will be handle your bandwidth.

  • E-mail accounts

Many hosts will provide you with 10 or more e-mail accounts for your online business. The number of accounts you need may affect which host you choose.

  • Support

Another feature you need to consider is the technical or billing support you will receive from the web hosting company. Some have a customer service line, which you can call when you have a problem. Others have e-mail or a ticket system, which you have to wait for a response. Responses are usually within 24 hours with these types of hosts.

Basics of web hosting

Finding the Right Host

Finding the right web hosting company is the first important business relationship for a Web Site Owner. You'll be paying the web hosting company to look after your site. Therefore choosing the right host for your site is important for anyone that uses or depends on it.

A good Web host will reflect well upon you

How your chosen web host looks after the server that hosts your site will reflect on you as the owner of the site. If the site is often unavailable due to unreliable servers, poor server configuration or even more traffic than the server can handle, then this will give the impression that you are someone who doesn't really know what they are doing.

Once our site is working and in use it will be viewed by everyone who wants to use it. But sometimes due to unpredictable nature of the Internet it may be difficult to view. If the site is a business site, not being able to view the website can cause a revenue loss. Personal and hobby sites could also loose revenue during the time the site is unavailable at any time, though generally not too much. Even sites that are not for profit can get a bad reputation if the site is unavailable or slow to use.

Potential loss of revenue is just one of the reasons for wanting to choose a good host. A problem with the host can affect the other services connected with the domain. Services such as email and FTP could also be affected, and checking emails may become difficult. Another problem is that, messages could get sent back to the sender and your visitors could come to the conclusion that the site no longer exists.

Service Level Guarantees

Getting the right host will definitely reduce your problems. A good host should inform you of scheduled downtime before it happens via email. Of course there is no way of predicting any unscheduled downtime, but many hosts will offer an uptime guarantee which will compensate you in some way. The hosts that guarantee good service will generally offer better terms in case things go wrong. To receive the services when needed, it would be a good idea to keep both a print and an electronic copy of the Terms of Service and any other important documents from the day that you purchase a new hosting plan.

If you are not able to monitor the site yourself it can create problems, but there are products and services available that can carry out various tests to check if your site is still "live". Even if you can prove that your site was unavailable to you or the monitoring service for more than the agreed acceptable level, you should always check the small print; if the problem was not your host's fault, they may not need to pay up!

You get what you pay for

Every host does not necessarily suit everyone. A server that is well suited for one of your sites may slow down another. Remember, it is in your best interests to find the most suitable server set up for your site that you can afford. Not getting a suitable host for your server can ruin your reputation.

Hosting types totally explained in 5 minutes!

Everything about hosting types you wanted to know…but was afraid to ask.

This article will end confusion about different hosting types. Below are described all hosting types you need to know about.

Free hosting – is a type of hosting where you don't have to pay for your space with money, but the service is often compensated with advertisements. Free hosting offers poor or no support at all and has many other disadvantages. Free hosting is more a thing of past, since hosting has become very cheap.

Shared hosting – is the most popular and widely used type of web hosting. Shared means that multiple sites are hosted on the same hard drive and the same server. Each user is limited to a specific space allotment and data transfer.

Reseller hosting – means reselling hosting accounts for a web host under your own brand, pricing structure and everything else. Reseller is provided with all the things he needs, and does not need any hardware. His job is marketing and selling accounts.

Virtual Private Server – is a low cost solution for your own server. Virtual means that you do not rent a real server, but rather split hardware with other virtual servers on the same machine. However Virtual Private Server (often called VPS) provides everything that a real server does: root access, installing your own programs, hosting unlimited domains and more.

Dedicated Server – is an advanced type of hosting which includes rental and exclusive use of a computer, software and internet connection. Dedicated server provides far more control than any other type of hosting, but also means a greater responsibility, since the client has to manage the server himself. Dedicated server is the best solution for big web sites with lots of daily users.

Managed hosting – is an expanded dedicated server hosting. With dedicated server the client takes care of the server, but with managed hosting it is the responsibility of the hosting provider. It includes all the benefits of dedicated server plus server management, maintenance and monitoring 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Colocation – is a type of hosting where you bring your own server to your hosts datacenter. Hosting company provides you rack space, internet connection, controlled environment (air temperature, security, redundancy) and IT staff available for help.

Clustered hosting – is a hosting type used by the greatest and most important web sites. Clustered means that the same content is served on multiple servers (often reffered as mirrors). This enables better resource managing and redundancy.

Since people have been able to work remotely for a while now, they are also wanting to be able to get their corporate and business data and different applications from the remote sites which may actually include their homes. Web Hosting Choices

When choosing a web hosting plan two of the most important considerations you have are the amount of band width and data transfer required, over the years the cost of memory and the physical size of that memory has fallen. The knock on effect of this on you is that the cost of web hosting has fallen dramatically over the last few years and consequently you can get a lot of disk space for a few pounds a month.

So, how do you decide just how much disk space you need?
Well one of the main factors will be the size of your site, and how you expect it to grow over the course of your contract with your web host. This web site for instance takes up approximately 80Mb of disk space, and is growing at a rate of about 5Mb per month, as newer content is added to the main site and to our blog, which is hosted on the same server and contributes to our disk space usage, as will any of your subdomains. 80Mb sounds quite small, and you would be right in thinking that since most basic web hosting plans offer at least 1Gb of storage, and some offer an awful lot more. But you must also factor in your Email accounts, the number of which will eat up you disk space allowance, and you also need to consider whether you will be uploading media files to your server be they audio, video, documents or programs you wish to make available for download to your customers.

The bottom line is do you have enough to grow?
For instance do you envisage adding a pod cast to your site, a great marketing strategy, but one which will see your disk space usage rocket. When deciding on storage for your web hosting plan take a look at where you want your business to be in 2 years time and choose a deal which can cope with the expansion you require to get to that point and beyond. Conversely chose a hosting provider which will allow you to upgrade and add on additional disk space, bandwidth etc so that you only pay for these feature as it becomes necessary, the key is to think ahead and not get caught out with not enough space to upload your latest product range.

Bandwidth/Data Transfer Allowance
In the most simple of terms an analogy using water flowing through pipes gives the easiest explanation of bandwidth, the wider the pipes (i.e. higher bandwidth) the more water can be moved per second (or data).

So Bandwidth is the amount of data passage per second and is generally measured in Gbps (Gigabits per second).

It is easy to confuse bandwidth, i.e the speed of your connection with data transfer allowance, which is the amount of data that can be transferred too and from your server or web site per month and is measured in Gb. Most web hosts actually incorrectly use the term bandwidth in place of data transfer allowance, and it is important when choosing a web host, or a web hosting plan that you have a rough idea of the amount data transfer you will require.

Put simply each time somebody looks at a page from your site they download that page from your server, using up some of your data transfer allowance, if your average page size is 100kb and each of your 100 visitors a day looks at say 4 pages then per day you are using 40Mb which equates to a data transfer of 1.2Gb per month. Unfortunately customers visiting your site are not the only ones to use up your data transfer, sending and receiving email, uploading new pages to your server, and believe it or not GoogleBot, MSN Bot and the Yahoo! Robot to name but a few of the countless spiders out there, all use up a portion of your data transfer depending on how many of your pages they spider

So, the more bandwidth/data transfer the better?
Yes, decide how many visitors you ideally would like/can cope with and then choose a package with twice the bandwidth you think you need, this serves two purposes, firstly and most importantly it allows you room to grow. Secondly having more bandwidth than you need means you are ready for any surges in popularity you may enjoy, and will avoid having to pay any excess data transfer charges (usually around $2/£1 per Gb).

Web Hosting

Web hosting is a service through which users can post web pages to the Internet. A web host and hosting service provider (HSP) is a business that provides the services and tools needed for web sites to be viewed on the Web.

Web hosting is a prime service that users can utilize after obtaining either dial-up or broadband access to the Internet. It provides users to broadcast their own information resources to any Internet user that is interested in accessing them. Web hosting makes use of the server/client model to distribute content. A Web hosting provider will provide its client right to access a Web server that will push client's content to recipients on request. Recipients use Web browsers like Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator to request content from the Web over their own Internet connection.

On a special computer Web sites are stored or hosted called as server. The server or host computer permits Internet users connected anywhere to reach site when they put host’s domain address in web browser. The server or host computers are set up so that when someone types Web address in browser, the address will follow a route from computer to computer until it reaches host computer and web site. After that Internet user will be able to browse throughout the Web site. Hosting companies usually need their own domain name in order to host with them.
Web hosts provide the technical resources and equipment that are required to offer a consumer with their own customized Web site. Hosting companies charge a fee for the storing Web site service and allowing Web site visitor traffic flow through computers to get information on site.

Web hosting services are more advantageous because the physical location of the Web server does not reside at the consumer's premises. Many small businesses take advantage of Web hosts in order to free themselves from pre occupying their scarce human and financial resources on Web host issues. Companies and individuals who outsource their Web presence to achieve the following objectives: improve own company focus, reduce operating costs, gain access to in-depth expertise, free internal resources for core competencies and obtain access to world-class capabilities to control IT functions which are difficult to handle. In multiple formats Web hosting is offered to the consumer based upon its requirements. These requirements are depend upon cost and infrastructure provided.

Types of Web Hosting
Web hosting services present in all sizes and shapes. It is useful to break down all services into several "classes" in order to understand the most fundamental differences in pricing and functionality. Each "class" speaks the needs of a particular type of customer.

1) Shared Hosting :
This is the most basic and important of all services. The hosting service providers put several web sites on a single powerful machine.

2) Virtual Dedicated Hosting :
This is a fairly new web hosting service, which seems to be bridge between "shared" and "dedicated" hosting. Several web sites are physically placed on a server, but the number of such sites is small in number and each one is given a dedicated "copy" of the operating system along with portion of computer resources, a copy of web server software in addition to direct "root-level" access to the server itself.

3) Dedicated Hosting:
Dedicated Hosting means that the computer which is used to serve web site is used by users only. Dedicated hosting allocates a Web site to its own server. This is more flexible because it has full control over the back end of the server including choice of OS.

4) Colocated Hosting (Colocation) :
Colocation provides ultimate degree of flexibility. This hosting consist of buying and installing own server on the web hosting provider's premises.

5) Managed hosting :
It is accompanied by a full suite of technical support, maintenance and monitoring services. In managed hosting, customers are provided with their own servers but are still responsible for virtually all administrative and maintenance duties.

Web Hosting Server Technologies :
The different hosting technologies are as follows:
1) Windows Hosting:
Windows hosting means hosting of web services that use Windows operating system. User should choose Windows hosting if he want to use Active Server Pages as server scripting or if he want to use a database like Microsoft Access or Microsoft SQL Server. Windows hosting is also the best choice if user want to develop web site using Microsoft Front Page.

2) Unix Hosting:
UNIX hosting means hosting of web services that uses UNIX operating system.
UNIX was the first reliable and stable web server operating system.

3) Linux Hosting:
Linux hosting means hosting of web services that uses Linux operating system.

4) ASP - Active Server Pages
Microsoft developed Active Server Pages as a server-side scripting technology.
With ASP dynamic web pages can be created by embedding scripting code inside HTML pages. The code is run by the web server before the page is returned to the browser. Both Visual Basic and JavaScript can be used for ASP code.

5) JSP
JSP is a server-side technology developed by Sun. With JSP dynamic web pages can be created by embedding Java code inside HTML pages. The code is run by the web server before the page is returned to the browser. Since JSP uses Java, the technology is not limited to any server-specific platform.

6) FrontPage
Microsoft developed FrontPage as web site design tool. FrontPage provides users easy way to develop a web site without any deep knowledge of web development. Most Windows hosting solutions maintain FrontPage server for users that use FrontPage to develop their web site.

7) PHP
PHP is a server-side scripting language which allows creating dynamic web pages by embedding script code inside HTML pages. The code is run by the web server before the page is returned to the browser.

8) Cold Fusion
Macromedia developed Cold Fusion, which is another server-side scripting language used to develop dynamic web pages.

How to Make Money with Web Hosting

We all know that web hosting is the basis of all web sites. It helps us attract visitors, it displays what we are desperately trying to get across, and it allows us to survive in the cut throat internet world. While these are all important qualities that come with web hosting, there are many other opportunities. Dying to make extra cash? Surprisingly, web hosting can actually help with your bills. In a few simple steps, you will be on your way to a richer lifestyle.

Fortunately, there is a new trend in the web industry. Reseller Hosting, which consists of purchasing a web hosting package and reselling it for a larger price, has been making webmasters just a few cents richer. Although this sounds like a daunting task, it actually only requires a large amount of space. Once the webmaster acquires such a large server and bandwidth, he/she is able to divide it up among other people. As long as they are willing to pay a monthly fee, you will never get screwed over.

Regardless of how much money you want to make, purchasing this re-seller hosting does not cost much. For an average of $30/month, you can purchase enough space to make a profit. While all of these websites will be on a shared server, the majority of webmasters do not mind this downside. After all, not everyone can shell out thousands a month just to acquire their own dedicated server. Once you have found a few loyal customers who will not create any illegal material, you will be generating a profit every single month out of the year. Fortunately, until you stop your hosting, you will never be out of a job.

In order to sell this type of hosting, you absolutely need to network. Regrettably, there are many webmasters trying to follow the trend. For this reason alone, you should look in unpopulated areas. Try and find a website or forum that has not yet been tackled by other masses of website owners. For instance, find websites similar to your own. If you do not have one, look on webmaster-related forums such as Digital Point or Webmaster-Talk. These areas are populated with thousands of interested clients, who will be more than happy to jump on the bandwagon, if you do have a great deal.

Still desperately trying to find other ways to market? Many website owners advertise through blogs and buy text link ads. As a result, people will be more apt to find what you are offering. If this doesn't work, you could even start marketing in a local newspaper or a newsletter that goes out to professional companies who are always looking for alternatives. Nevertheless, there are plenty of consumers out there. You just need to be creative and put in the effort, in order to get anywhere.

For years web hosting has been flooding the market. However, it has just recently become a form of revenue for webmasters who just don't own their own web hosting company. It is a wonderful alternative to an additional part time job, especially if this is what you love to do. Networking with others, controlling a server, while working on your website certainly sounds like the perfect occupation.

Web Hosting Instructions

Web domains. Hosting. Content. These are the three top priorities for any webmaster, regardless of how experienced they are. Unfortunately, these three essentials often leave people in the dark, as there are dozens of companies offering the “same” packages for different prices. With an overflow of routes you could take, it can get mind boggling to figure out the appropriate steps. For this reason, instructions are essential if you are looking for a smooth path.

The first thing you should do is make a list of what your current goals are. If you are making a professional site, you'll need a secure and reliable host. For instance, if you know that your website will reach thousands of people within a few months, perhaps you should find a web hosting package that includes extra bandwidth. You need additional space, especially if visitors are constantly going to be accessing your website. On the other hand, if you are just experimenting, you should stick to the free hosting packages. Geocities or Angel Fire certainly provides a basic package, which will leave you satisfied. After all, you do not need bells and whistles if you aren't serious about the website in the long run. If you do end up changing your mind, you can always switch services and transfer your website.

Once you have made your decision, you need to find a reputable service. While searching for hosting companies on Google may seem appropriate, it often stems bad results. It is important to remember that just because it is listed on a search engine, doesn't mean it is 100% safe and legit. Therefore, if you do find a potential company, you should get a second opinion. It is usually smart to join a webmaster related forum like SitePoint to discuss such matters. This way you can hear about other people's experiences and what companies to avoid. Additional references from friends or family would also be ideal.

After picking a host, you will need to provide your credit card information. For many users, 3ix.org is a favorite, as it rarely charges you much. Surprisingly, there are discount coupon codes you can acquire through the internet, to also help you with your initial fee. Due to the fact that you have to include your private information, it is absolutely crucial to make sure you find a legit business. The last thing you want is to lose any money. Therefore, you should google their name and check out the reviews from fellow users. This will most definitely make all of the difference, especially if you find out that they are a fraud.

For website beginners, web hosting doesn't have to be difficult or even too time consuming. As long as you find reputable sources, second opinions, and a great easy to use package, you are well on your way to website success. With these instructions in mind, there should be no frustrations or year long debates on what company to use. It is quite simple, once you get in the webmaster's frame of mind.

The Right Web Hosting Service

You may be starting a website as a hobby, for an upcoming special event or for your business. In any case, with the creation of a website you would need a web hosting service.

There are many web hosting services available and getting the right one would depend on what type of website you plan to create and your web hosting needs. It can be difficult and confusing to choosing one most especially if you don't quite have a good background or idea about such.

There are several factors that could help you in your task of choosing the right web host. If the website you are setting up is for a large type of business you would want to consider aspects like the amount of web space and disk space being offered and on whether multiple email accounts will be provided most especially if your business operation is not a one-man team.

Look for web hosts that provide several options and that offer their services at very competitive prices. The pay per click option may be appropriate if the website you are building is just for hobby or for a one-time event like a wedding or a birthday. This would save you a lot of money most especially if you are not expecting heavy traffic on your website. If you are investing your own money for the website, the pay per click option would be ideal at the start. Anyway, you can always upgrade sooner or later when necessary.

Another important consideration when choosing a web hosting service is how much you know about creating a website. If you can't understand Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML), you might want to choose a web host that helps you create your website in an easier way.

A website can generate profits for your business especially if it is an e-commerce site. But if you are just beginning, you might want to start with low priced services. You can always upgrade to other and higher options when your business is running smoothly.

A consideration as well in selecting any web hosting service is how it can help in promoting your site which is of importance if you want to create heavy traffic on your website.

You can always check and research online the many companies that offer various hosting services. Find out about the different hosting services to uncover that service which is best for your needs. A hosting service that offers 24 hour support would be a very good choice.

Web Hosting Scams – What Some Web Hosting Providers Aren’t Telling You

Web hosting providers are in abundant supply. Learn what to watch for to avoid getting scammed.

It’s hard to separate fact from fiction in advertising, and certainly no less so when dealing with web hosting providers. Bold, broad-sweeping claims are endlessly repeated in a shameless effort to keep you from reading the fine print. In an age where it seems there are almost as many web hosting providers as there are websites to be hosted, competition is fierce, and competing web hosting providers will say almost anything to get you to sign up with them.

That’s why you need to know what to look for, how to read between the lines, so that you don’t fall victim to any of the most common scams that plague the internet in the guise of once-in-a-lifetime offers you absolutely can’t refuse.

Free Web Space: Yes, some web hosting providers will give you 5 or 10 MB of web space for no charge, however (and we know you’ve heard this phrase before…) certain restrictions apply. Make sure you know what they are.

Unlimited Bandwidth: There’s no such thing, plain and simple. The web hosting providers themselves have limitations imposed on their bandwidth; how can they offer you any more than that? They can’t.

When web hosting providers offer "unlimited" bandwidth it means they’ve estimated how much usage their average customer could ever possibly need, thereby giving the illusion of unlimited bandwidth.

Free Domain Names: Sure, they’re free, but so’s dirt. You want some free dirt? We didn’t think so. Free domain names are about as valuable. First of all, they look something like this:
www. webhostingprovidersname.com/user/usersname.html (or some equally excruciating variation thereof).

Now, consider this:

First, most internet surfers are wise to these types of URLs; people know that companies with domain names like these are not usually the most well-established or reputable businesses online.

Second, the more slashes your URL contains, the lower your page rank.

And third, no one will remember the name of your website!

These are just a few of the reasons why free domain names aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.

Domain Registration: Now, this by itself is no scam; to the contrary, it’s a useful and convenient feature many web hosting providers offer. Some, however, will actually register your domain in their name. This way, they locked you into service with them as switching web hosting providers now means losing your domain name.

Web Templates: Don’t mistake us, web templates are great. How else can the average computer user whip out a website that looks halfway decent without spending a fortune? But what web hosting providers don’t tell you about these templates could end up costing you later.

Any images or page designs or web forms or any other objects that originated from your web hosting providers database belongs to them. They own the copyright. If you ever switch web hosting providers, you can’t take any of it with you.

Not to mention, if you ever decide to hire a professional webmaster, many will refuse to work with template-driven websites, as they’re (ironically) harder to manage.

No Contact Information: If you can’t find on their website at least one way – email address, query ticket, phone number, mailing address – to get in touch with the web hosting providers you’re considering, stop considering them.

Discounts for Long Term Contracts: Before falling prey to this alluring gimmick, ask yourself, even if your website lasts as long as your contract, are you sure your web host will? Web hosting providers (like websites) are born and die every day, and they know it. That’s why most of them include somewhere in their Terms of Service that they won’t be held liable if they can’t fulfill their end of the contract.

So, if they go under, so does your website. And if you go under first, say goodbye to the money you paid for the long term contract. Either way, it’s no bargain. Stick with a year or two at most.

No Guarantees: Whether for web hosting providers or wetsuit manufacturers or weight loss programs, they’ve got to have a money-back guarantee. These days, it’s essential. And there’s zero reason you should ever pay for a product or service that doesn’t offer some form of money back guarantee or another.

The Best Web Hosting Services and Why They Are the Best

Looking for a web hosting service? The top web hosting services out there are not always at the top because they are the best out there. A lot of them spend more of their money marketing than they do providing a good service. In order to find the best web hosting service you have to look at a variety of factors.

To make it easier for yourself, consider writing a list of the top 20 or so companies out there and comparing their services by writing a chart. That will give you a visual of what some companies have that others are lacking hence assist you in the decision-making process.

The Best Web Hosting Services Offer Excellent Customer Support

It is expected to run into some problems every now and then when you are using a web hosting service. That is where customer service and tech support comes in. Ideally you would email customer support and they would answer your emails in a timely fashion, providing viable solutions to your problems.

Unfortunately for consumers, there are many companies out there that don't make it a priority to offer good customer support. Before choosing any company, make sure to read reviews by real customers to find out whether they are responsive to their customers needs and provide good tech support. The best web hosting services will respond to your needs immediately, 24/7.

Server Performance Makes the Best Web Hosting Services Stand Out

In order to attract visitors and keep people coming back to your site, the server's performance has to be very good. If your site has a lot of uptime, it means that it experiences minimal time in maintenance or offline. Visitors will give up on visiting your site if it always down when they try to access it and for online businesses, this could mean a bad reputation and less profits.

Most web hosting services guarantee between 99% to 99.9% uptime. 0.9% may not seem like a huge difference but it can be significant so take that into consideration when shopping around for a web host.
Trying to find the best web hosting service can be overwhelming with all the companies competing to be at the top. What is important to remember is that certain "bonuses" offered by companies are none other than that; extras.

When you get down to business, the most important aspects are server performance and good customer service. If a web hosting service lacks either, it simply cannot compete with the best. Now that you are armed with this information, it will be easier for you to narrow down your options and find the best web hosting service out there.

What to Consider When Shopping For a Web Hosting Service

Nowadays there are endless choices in web hosting services; it is a tough call to pick up the right web host to run our website. Different hosting companies offer different hosting features in different pricing. With such wide variety, a checklist of must-have features is indeed necessary. For your ease to review, here is a quick list on the consideration factors in picking up the right hosting.

Disk Storage

First, you'll need to check on the hosting disk storage. Disk storage capacity is vital as it will determine how many files (web pages and other data files) to be stored in your website. Be aware that some hosting companies will count email and logs as your disk storage thus you are advised to estimate 20 - 30% extra on top of the necessary of disk space when selecting your hosting plan.

FTP Access

Secondly, FTP access will be a huge issue when shopping for the right web host. Avoid hosting companies that have too many limitations on FTP usage as the feature is very important for your website daily maintenance. The best option with FTP access is that you can register unlimited FTP account so that you can make full use of your hosting account.

Website Bandwidth

Thirdly, website bandwidth is another concern for most webmasters. The amount of bandwidth has an immediate impact on your website performance. For example, stagnant server response time and slow download time that affect users experience are often cause by poor bandwidth capacity.

What should come next into your concern is the hosting server resources usage. This includes usage of server CPU, RAM, as well as database connection. Make sure the server is running on sufficient resources. Track the website uptime using a third party software if necessary. All the other features are plain useless if your web host have no sufficient resources in your hosting server.

Pricing

Last but not least, over priced and hidden charges are not welcomed anywhere. To avoid being over charged, make sure you review multiple hosting plans and read up the  terms & condition of the provider company clearly to ensure there is no hidden charges involved.

A final words for those who are getting started - getting an affordable but yet reliable web host is always the most important thing when starting of a new website.

There are three web hosting options available and these are shared hosting, UNIX or Windows shared hosting and dedicated servers. The most widely used type of web hosting is shared hosting in which a number of websites are hosted on a single server. On the other hand, UNIX based servers would suit users that do not use more than HTML pages as it works out to be a bit cheaper. However, for those that need to use programming languages called Active Server Pages or need to connect to a database one can consider a Windows server. Finally, dedicated servers are for users that want or need total control of their server and are willing to pay extra for such features from their buiness web hosting service.
